Karandeep Singh (28) is leader of a gang of snatchers active in Punjab and accused of committing a number of chain snatchings in Ludhiana and other parts the state.
A reward of Rs 50,000 was announced on his arrest by the Punjab Police. He is also accused of murdering ASI Gurdial in 2011 posted at Ludhiana in Punjab, according to police.
"Singh was apprehended around 11:30 pm from Tilak Nagar yesterday," they said.
"Before his arrest he was employed as a cashier at a restaurant in Tilak Nagar for last 10-15 days," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.

He visited Ludhiana periodically, where he along with an accomplice Goldy and others used to commit chain snatching.
In 2011, Singh was chased by a police party after he was fleeing on a motorcycle committing snatching where he was pillion rider.
Singh fired three gun shots on police party and ran away from there, said Yadav. He came back to Delhi and worked in restaurant hoping that nobody will get to know.
He disclosed Singh's involvement in the murder of Punjab Police personnel.
Fearing arrest Singh changed his rented accommodation and mobile number, police said.
