Acting against illegal sand mining, a team of district officials arrested one person and seized machines and trucks allegedly being used for the purpose in Sikarivas village, a government official said today.
A team led by SDM Orai, Anand Shukla, and mining officer PK Singh carried out a raid and seized JCB machines, three trucks laden with sand after a villager complained that some people were carrying out illegal mining in his agriculture field on the bank of river Betwa, District Magistrate, Ram Ganesh said today.
A case in this connection was registered at the Kotra Police Station against two persons from the area of which one was arrested later, the DM added.
Jalaun is approximately 175 kms from state capital Lucknow. Illegal sandmining in Uttar Pradesh has come into focus following the controversy over suspension of IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal, who had clamped down on such illegal activities in Gautam Budh Nagar district.
Nagpal, the 28-year-old SDM of G B Nagar, who led the crackdown on sand mining mafia in her district, was suspended on July 27 ostensibly for ordering demolition of a mosque's wall allegedly without following the due process.
