Days after the arrest of two persons with 1 kg brown sugar from Mandvi village in Kutch district, the Gujarat ATS has arrested one more person with a similar quantity of the contraband from the same area, said officials on Thursday.
During questioning in custody of the two accused held earlier, the ATS learnt they had given 1 kg of banned drugs to one Imran Maniyar, a resident of Mandvi, said an ATS release.
Based on the information, the anti-terror agency nabbed Maniyar (29) and seized brown sugar worth Rs 1 crore from him, said the release.
According to the officials, they are now probing whether the banned drugs made their way to Gujarat from neighboring Pakistan, which is close to the Kutch border.
"Our investigation is also focused on the possibility that the drugs could have come from Pakistan. However, since the investigation is still on, we can not confirm it as of now. We are trying to extract details," said a senior ATS official.
On July 28, the ATS had nabbed two Mandvi-residents - Nadir Hussein Sameja and Umar Vagher - with 1 kg of brown sugar worth Rs 1 crore.
They were later remanded to 10 days of police custody by a local court.
