One person was killed and another seriously injured when a powerful bomb exploded along the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur's Ukhrul district, a police official said today.
The explosion occurred at Tarong village near Indo-Myanmar border last evening, the official said, adding that the bomb was planted by suspected militants on the roadside to attack the security personnel posted there.
One person died on the spot in the blast while the injured has been rushed to hospital where his condition is stated to be serious, the police officer said.
The official said the bomb was so powerful that the explosion could be heard some kilometres away from the spot.
He said major insurgent organisations active along the border areas might have planted the bomb but no individual or group has so far claimed responsibility for the explosion.
