A person was killed and his wife critically injured by heavily-armed miscreants today in Assam's Goalpara district where violence has claimed six lives so far this week.
Police said three heavily-armed persons attacked a person in Dariduri Tillapara village and killed him on the spot and critically injured his wife.
The injured was admitted to Goalpara Civil Hospital.
The indefinite curfew clamped in Forest Gate and Rakshisini police station areas of the district was relaxed today for eight hours from 9 am. The curfew was clamped after four people were killed on Monday's mob violence and police firing following the recovery of the body of a missing 50-year old cowherd in the Mailapathar area near Rakshashini forest.
Members of Asom Sankhyalagu Sangram Parishad staged a dharna in front of Goalpara deputy commissioner's office during the day demanding inquiry into the recent violence and adequate compensation to the victims' families.
The protestors also submitted a memorandum to Assam Governor J B Patnaik in this regard.
