One more dead in Akshardham accident

A 22-year-old woman, who was reported to be in a critical condition after an accident near Akshardham temple in which one of her friends died on the spot, succumbed to her injuries today.
Pooja Pathak was admitted to Max Super Speciality Hospital in Patparganj with multiple fractures on her skull. Her condition turned too critical around mignight and she died around 5.30 AM today, said a senior police officer.
Her body was later sent to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for post-mortem examination.
In the accident reported around 9.30 PM on Saturday, a 23-year-old girl died on spot and five others were severely injured after their speeding car rammed into a road divider before toppling over and crashing against a tempo parked on the road near Akshardham temple in east Delhi, police said.
The group had borrowed the car from another friend and were returning from a party at Shipra mall in Ghaziabad.
They were heading towards the women's paying guest accommodation where the four occupants of the car - Shalini Rana (the woman who died on spot), Pooja Pathak, Priya and Puja Tomar - lived. The other two occupants of the car were identified as Bhola and Ajay, said police.

Meanwhile, the other injured were reported to be in a stable condition now.
Both the deceased women - Rana and Pathak - were natives of Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh and they had come to Delhi last year after finishing their graduation. They had taken up coaching classes at Laxmi Nagar area for professional banking examinations, said police.
The car was being driven by Ajay and he allegedly lost control over the wheels after crossing the traffic intersection at Mayur Vihar Phase II. The car first hit the divider (not very far from the Commonwealth Games village), rolled over and then crashed into the rear side of a tempo parked on the roadside.
The impact was so immense that the left side of the car was crushed and police had to use gas cutters to pull out the occupants. They were rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where Rana was declared brought dead and the others were referred to Max Hospital, the police officer added.
