One or more pollutant in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata higher than
Press Trust of India New Delhi 95 cities, including Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata have been identified as "non-attainment" cities where the level of one or more pollutant has exceeded the standards for three consecutive years, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar told the Lok Sabha today.
In most such cities, higher level of PM-10, referred to particular matter having size equal to or less than 10 micron, is the main reason but in some cities, including Delhi, the quantity of another pollutant nitrogen dioxide is also more than standard, according to the data tabled by him in the Lok Sabha.
Vehicular and industrial pollution are primary reasons behind the high level of pollution in these cities.
Gujarat has seven such cities, Madhya Pradesh eight, Maharashtra 10 and UP 11.
