The project has turned out to be a great success in upper Assam, which has a high incidence of oral cancer cases, with nearly 300 critical cancer patients being treated in five medical camps organised so far, Assam Asset's Medical Services head Dr J M Das claimed.
The medical team of ONGC, in order to reach out to a large number of patients, has been in touch with many other renowned cancer specialists in Mumbai and many of them have shown their keen interest to be involved in this project, Das said.
Many local hospitals and nursing homes have also come forward to provide diagnostic and other facilities at a discounted rate, according to a release issued by ONGC.
Dr Tapan Saikia, an internationally renowned cancer specialist and philanthropist, was the key resource person of Project Kiran which besides, free counselling to patients, have also launched awareness campaigns to educate people on this dreaded disease.
The anti-cancer campaign that not only treats patients but also creates awareness would go a long way in helping people who are suffering from the disease but are unable to afford the latest treatment facility available in Mumbai and elsewhere.
