ONGC win men's title, BPCL clinches women & veteran's crown

H S Prannoy and Saurabh Verma helped ONGC clinch the men's team championship title, while BPCL won the crown in women's and veteran's team competitions in the PSPB inter-unit badminton tournament here today.
In the men's team championship final, ONGC's H S Prannoy beat K Srikanth of IOCL 21-16 11-21 21-19 in a gruelling first singles match to give ONGC a 1-0 lead.
In the second singles, Saurabh Verma defeated P Kashyap (IOCL) 21-13 22-20 to make it 2-0 in ONGC's favour.
Rupesh Kumar and V Diju then beat Arun Vishnu and K Srikanth 21-16 22-20 as ONGC notched up a 3-0 victory over IOCL. The third single and second doubles were rendered inconsequential.
In the women's team championship, P V Sindhu and Aditi Mutatkar notched up victories in their respective singles matches to help BPCL win the title.
In the first single, Tanvi Lad of IOCL played her heart out before going down to world championship bronze medallist P V Sindhu (BPCL) 21-19 6-21 9-21.

However, the pair of Aparna Balan and P Sawant defeated Jwala Gutta and PV Sindhu (BPCL) 21-14 26-24 in the second match to bring IOCL back into the contest.
Trupti Murgunde though failed to extend the lead as she went down 16-21 11-21 to BPCL'S Aditi and it was all over for IOCL.
In the veterans' team championship final, BPCL beat GAIL 2-0. In the first single, George Thomas (BPCL) beat Ajay Jindal (GAIL) 21-14 21-13, while the pair of Milind Ghate and Bhushan Akut (BPCL) defeated Ajay Jindal and K S Kuamresan (GAIL) 21-11 21-7.
