The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has said only 33 out of 73 state PSUs in West Bengal, which are operational, had prepared the accounts for the financial year 2016-17.
The CAG report said that 21 PSUs earned profits of Rs 621 crore during 2016-17, while 11 of them incurred losses to the tune of Rs 665 crore and one suffered nominal loss.
Of the 73 working state PSUs, the total accumulated losses of 30 were Rs 9,026 crore that exceeded their paid-up capital of Rs 1,717 crore.
The CAG report on the state PSUs said that within the rules of the Companies Act of 2013, the managements had failed in preparing the annual accounts.
It also indicted that the audit reports were not being laid before the state legislature in a timely manner.
During 2016-17, the state government provided financial support of Rs 3,894 crore towards equity, loans, grants and subsidies.
Regarding investment in PSUs, the report said the government infused Rs 40,611 crore in all the 92 undertakings, and the power sector accounted for 72 per cent of the total investment as on March 2017.
