The CPI today held UPA government responsible for the "deteriorating" economic condition of the country, and claimed that an Egypt-like movement is the only hope left for the masses.
"The uncontrolled inflation in the country is the result of wrong and misguided economic policies of the government," senior CPI leader Gurudas Das Gupta told reporters here.
He accused Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Planning Commission Vice Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia of creating a "financial mess" in the country.
"The only hope now lay with the masses themselves, who may one day, like the people of Egypt, rise up to change the system," he said.
He was in the industrial town of Punjab to mobilise support for the December 12 'gehrao' of Parliament.
Gupta claimed that more than 3 lakh workers of all the national trade unions of the country would reach Delhi on that day in support of their demands.

The CPI leader said the Prime Minister had, during his address to the Indian Labour Conference, promised that inflation would be soon controlled.
"He (Prime Minister) had then constituted a cabinet sub committee for the purpose under the leadership of A Antony but nothing, not even a step, was taken in that direction," Gupta claimed.
Gupta said that the Left welcomed the Food Security Act, but was sure that the entire scheme was a hypocritical show without any reality behind it.
