CBSE has proposed to introduce an 'open book examination' system in class 9 and 10 from the next year wherein students will be informed of relevant chapters on which questions will be based.
As per the concept, while students will not be allowed to carry textbooks inside the examination hall, they will be apprised in advance about the chapters and paragraphs from which analytical questions would be asked in the test, officials in the HRD Ministry said.
The plan is to introduce the system in Summative Assessment II and a component of the assessment will be based on text material supplied to the students beforehand.
The examination that does not require rote memorisation thus reduces the current levels of pressure on students, Minister of State for HRD Shashi Tharoor has said in the Lok Sabha.
The government also proposes to introduce an 'open book examination' system in the form of open case study-based approach in classes 11 and 12.
As part of this, the question paper will have a separate section carrying a set of problems based on case studies related to the subject.
CBSE would bring out guidance material for students and parents to solve their queries and to help them in preparing for the examination.
The teachers would also be trained using multiple modes.
