The demand came from the Senate Minority leader Senator Chuck Schumer following a Washington Post report that Trump shared sensitive classified information with the Russians.
"If the reporting is accurate, in one fell swoop the president could have unsettled our allies, emboldened our adversaries, endangered our military and intelligence officers the world over, and exposed our nation to greater risk," Schumer said in the Senate floor.
"Given the gravity of the matter, we need to be able to quickly assess whether or not this report is true and what exactly was said. So, I am calling on the White House to make the transcript of the meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister and Ambassador available to the congressional Intelligence Committees as soon as possible," Schumer said.
In a separate statement, top Republican Senator John McCain said such news reports are "deeply disturbing."
"Reports that this information was provided by a US ally and shared without its knowledge sends a troubling signal to America's allies and partners around the world and may impair their willingness to share intelligence with us in the future," McCain said.
