Hitting out at the Opposition, BJP today said while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working to curb black money and corruption with his demonetisation exercise, rival parties have "ganged up" against him.
Terming demonetisation as a 'surgical strike' on black money, BJP National Secretary Shrikant Sharma claimed that the general public is in the support of the move and now it has taken a shape of "people's movement".
He added that despite difficulties, the common man is supporting the decision.
On the other hand, opposition parties are indulging in "conspiracy" by spreading various rumours to derail this movement but the country is unitedly standing with Modi in his fight against black money and corruption, he alleged at a press conference.
"While Modi government is working day-night to remove black money and corruption from the system, these opposition parties have ganged up to remove him," Sharma said.
Taking on SP and BSP, he said today these "opportunist" political outfits are raising question marks on the success of demonetisation, "where were they when Congress looted the common man through various scams in their 10 years of misrule".

"Instead of pointing fingers, SP and BSP were supporting the Congress government at the Centre," he added.
Calling the decision historic, Sharma said it should also be seen as a step towards electoral reforms as it will clean the electoral system by removing the use of black money and elections will become cheaper.
In the long run, this will also regularise political funding in the country, he said.
