The issue was raised by members of both BJP and Congress. Congress legislator Chiranjib Biswal raised the issue seeking explanation from the government as to how and why elected legislators of opposition parties are denied the post of chairman of college managing committees.
The opposition members alleged that while BJD MLAs are appointed as chairpersons of different college managing committees in their respective assembly segments, the BJP and Congress MLAs are denied the posts. The district authorities appoint defeated BJD leaders in places where Congress and BJP MLAs won elections.
However, the BJP and Congress leaders said they were not satisfied with the minister's explanation and created an uproar over the issue leading to adjournment of the House.
