As the House met after the lunch, Congress member A S Patil Nadahalli raised the issue of Patil's arrest when he was staging a protest at the Freedom Park here demanding implementation of Article 371(J) of the Constitution providing special status to six districts of Hyderabad-Karnataka region.
Several opposition MLAs from North Karnataka like B R Patil, Ashok Kheny and others also raised the issue and entered the well of the House demanding release of Patil who is also the President of Hyderabad Karnataka Horata Samiti.
Intervening, Rural Development Minister H K Patil said government is not "dictatorial" and" we will ask Home Minister to respond on what has happened."
Soon after this, BJP members also joined the protest condemning government's action.

After brief adjournment, Home Minister K J George said Vaijnath Patil wanted to submit a memorandum to the Governor, following which police officers contacted Raj Bhavan to seek permission but appointment was not fixed.
This was informed to Patil, who still insisted on meeting the Governor. So he was taken in to preventive custody and will be released later.
He said Home Minister should immediately order for his release for them to withdraw their protest. This lead to heated argument between both the sides.
George finally said he will order for Patil's release following which opposition members withdrew the protest, allowing the House to function.
