The party termed the scheme as an "eyewash" even as Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna said about 60,000 youth will be benefitted from it.
Soon after Anusuya Prasad Maikhuri was elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker, Leader of Opposition Ajay Bhatt raised the issue in the House alleging that the state government had promised to cover all the unemployed youths under the ambit of its Employment-cum-Skill Development scheme but a negligible 0.11 per cent of them had been chosen as its beneficiaries.
Terming it as an "act of injustice and treachery" with the unemployed youth in the state, Bhatt demanded that a detailed discussion be held in the House without delay on the issue of "immediate importance".
After the demand was turned down by Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal, who said the issue can be raised later under appropriate laws, BJP members got agitated and stormed into the well of the House shouting anti-government slogans.
As Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal refused to give in and took up other business listed for the day, the BJP members led by Bhatt walked out of the House.
Later talking to reporters, Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna said nearly 60,000 unemployed youth were all set to benefit from the scheme which was launched to help them lead a life of dignity.
On BJP's charge that only 0.11 per cent of youth had benefitted from the scheme, he said it is just a month since it was launched and an awareness drive is being carried out to ensure that more and more youths come forward to avail of it.
