"When the government failed to spend the budget of the ongoing financial year, what is the relevance of bringing a massive budget worth over Rs 2.21 lakh crore," Leader of Opposition Swami Prasad Maurya said during the debate on budget 2013-2014 in the Assembly.
Maurya praised the government for some schemes like providing battery-run rickshaws, but questioned the timing, saying the schemes were apparently introduced in view of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
He charged the government with making a "concerted" move to misguide the people through the budget and said its reality would be exposed in Lok Sabha polls.
Deputy leader of BJP, Satish Mahana and leader of Congress Pradip Mathur also took serious exception to failure of the government to spend ongoing fiscal's budget in time.
Earlier, during the Zero Hour, Pramod Tewari (Cong) and Hukum Singh (BJP), through separate adjournment notices, raised the issue of female foeticide and slaughtering of lactating animals on which Parliamentary affairs minister Azam Khan also expressed concern and promised effective steps.
