At the reference period, Leader of the Opposition Ratan Lal Nath started reading out a proposal demanding cancellation of the membership of the MLA on the plea that his Schedule Caste certificate was cancelled by the State Level Schedule Caste Scrutiny Committee (SLSCC).
Speaker Ramendra Nath said the matter was subjudice as the MLA took the matter to the High Court.
He also clarified that neither the Assembly nor any government can dismiss an MLA, but Governor can take action in consultation with the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Nath said ECI was the appropriate authority to take any action on the matter.
However, the legislators of opposition Congress and the lone member of opposition Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT), Bijoy Hrankhawl went near the podium and started chanting slogans.
The Speaker then adjourned the House till 2 PM.
