Trouble erupted when DMK councillors sought a white paper on the last year's revenue and expenses immediately after the presentation of the over Rs 76 crore deficit budget of the Coimbatore Corporation for 2016-17.
The DMK members raised slogans inside the corporation hall and accused the ruling party of "looting" the funds without carrying out development works as announced in the last budget and alleged financial irregularities.
There was push and scuffle between the ruling and opposition councillors when they emerged out the council hall.
Though police made a vain bid to pacify them, the opposition councillors argued with the AIADMK members and the police, following which eight DMK and two Congress members were arrested, police said.
