Opposition BJP and CPI(M) members today staged a walkout of Rajasthan Assembly when the ruling Congress introduced three separate Bills on Agriculture Universities at Jobner, Jodhpur and Kota without bringing in the supplementary demands for funds.
As soon as Technical Education (Agriculture) Minister Muralilal Meena was asked by Deputy Speaker RN Meena to introduce the Bills, Deputy Leader of BJP, Ghan Shyam Tiwari, raised an objection saying that the government should first obtain financial support for the proposed varsities.
Tiwari said the Bills were not discussed at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting yesterday and alleged that the government, in a hurry to wind up the ongoing monsoon session, wanted to pass the Bills through the backdoor.
BJP Leader of Opposition GC Kataria alleged that the Bills had no legal sanctity as there was no financial provision for them in the budget.
"It appears that the Congress is in a hurry to pass the Bills and contest the upcoming Assembly polls by just making announcements," Kataria said.
Seeking an apology from the government, BJP's chief whip in the House, RS Rathore, demanded that the Deputy Speaker adjourn the House and call an all-party meeting.
