The party termed the move to take the ordinance route as a political tactic which Congress had resorted to with an eye on winning votes in the upcoming general elections.
"The government, instead of promoting a debate on the (Food Security Bill) in the Monsoon Session, abruptly brought the ordinance and got it passed by the President, thereby deceiving the opposition and reneging on its own word," Sitaraman said during her visit here.
After the Union cabinet approved the said ordinance on Wednesday, President Pranab Mukherjee signed the ordinance yesterday.
Referring to the hue and cry over the CBI chargesheet in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case, Sitaraman said that the case was based less on evidence and more on the inputs provided by the Union home ministry.
