Osian's Group has set up what is billed as the country's first auction house catering to vintage, classic and racing automobiles.
The division in Mumbai will be inaugurated formally along with an auction in October.
Besides cars, the auction house will also be a source to bid for automotive art, artefacts, mascots, vintage advertisements, catalogues and brochures, film posters, rare toy model cars and related memorabilia, a statement said.
Automotive expert Gautam Sen will head the automobile auction house division.
"This is an attempt to fill the void in India. The dominance of Europe and America in this market is evident but with India's captive 5,000 plus vintage and classic cars, given the unsurpassed patronage of the Indian rajas and maharajas, there is a genuine potential of new inroads into the subject," said Sen.
Talking about the auction house, Osian's Group chairman Neville Tuli said, "We believe that the interest and investment in historic vehicles and artifacts in India will soon match those with the most important internationally. Indian interest in the vintage, classic and racing automobile is growing fast."
