The trailers may give the impression of "Hunterrr" being an adult comedy but the makers and actors of the film insist that the movie is a coming-of-age story of boy and his experiences.
Director Hashvardhan Kulkarni says he has a problem with the labelling of the upcoming movie as a sex-comedy as he feels in India the genre is looked down upon as something "crass" and "vulgar".
"It is not a sex comedy... Actually the problem is the term sex comedy is associated here with a lot of films which this movie is not like. The flavour of the film is very different. Sex comedy is associated with being crass and vulgarity. 'Hunterrr' is not like that. It is a coming-of-age comedy," Kulkarni told PTI during a visit here today.
Actor Gulshan Devaiah, who plays the protagonist Mandar Ponkshe, a person obsessed with sex and women in the film, echoed Kulkarni's sentiments. "Whenever people refer to 'Hunterrr' as a sex comedy we would like to clarify and say that it is not. It is a story of a boy from the age of 14 and to 35."
Filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane, the co-producer of the movie, said the definition of sex comedy is very narrow in India as compared to the west.
"In Hollywood there is an 'American Pie' and also 'It Happened One Night'. The definition of the genre here is very narrow," he said.
Motwane said that he and his Phantom team were very impressed after watching "Hunterrr" and decided to back the project as they felt the film needed their support.

"I saw it after the shooting was over. We have worked with Harsh in 'Hasee to Phasee' as he was the writer of the film. We thought it was superb and we would do whatever we could to help market it and distribute it," the "Lootera" helmer said.
"Hunterrr" also stars Radhika Apte and Sai Tamhankar, who play Devaiah's interest in the film, which is releasing this Friday.
Apte said her character is very modern despite a traditional upbringing.
"My character's name is Trupti. She is quite independent. She is a very middle class girl and is someone who had a traditional upbringing and ideas about marriage. But her perception changes when a Mandar comes to her life," Apte said.
