Areas in east, west, north and south Delhi faced outages as maximum power demand touched 4,619 MW, an increase of 275 MW from yesterday's 4,344 MW.

Officials said a number of neighbouring states overdrew power from the northern grid, resulting in loadshedding in Delhi.

"They drew more power than their reserved quota due to which we had to restrict drawing our quota," said an official.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, however, said the situation was "pretty comfortable" compared to Saturday when supply to Delhi fell by 1,400 MW due to technical problems in a number of power generation plants.

Residents in Janakpuri, Khajurikhas and Dwarka have complained there was no power in their areas for upto three hours.

"There was no power in our area for three hours," said Manu Gupta, a resident of Khajurikhas in East Delhi.
