Outgoing Army Chief visits Northern Command Headquarters

As part of farewell visits before he retires, Army Chief General Bikram Singh today visited Northern Command Headquaters in Jammu region and interacted with troops.
At Udhampur, Gen Singh paid homage to the martyrs at Dhruva War Memorial.
He addressed all ranks and was accorded a warm farewell by troops of Northern Command. During his address, Gen Singh complimented all officers for their exemplary sense of duty, people friendly approach during counter-terrorist operations and humanitarian approach while guarding the Northern frontiers.
The Army Chief stressed upon the rich military traditions, ethos and the value systems and the importance of remaining committed and focused while discharging responsibilities.
Later in the day, Gen Singh and president central AWWA also visited Rajouri and Tanda and later left for Jammu.
"Gen Singh, with his wife Bubbles Singh, president Central Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA), was on a two-day farewell visit to Northern Command and arrived at Udhampur on the evening of July 12," Defence spokesperson of Northern Command, Col S D Goswami said today.
Earlier in the day, the Army Chief visited Srinagar-based headquarters of 15 Corps, where he addressed and interacted with the troops. Singh also met Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Governor N N Vohra.
The Army Chief is visiting various Army formations before he retires on July 31.
