Delhi University teacher Prasanta Chakravarty, who was roughed up during the North Campus clash, today alleged the involvement of outsiders in the violence.
Chakravarty, an associate Professor with DU, said people who assaulted him during the clashes yesterday appeared to be "some kind of mercenaries" and not students.
"There is absolute polarisation. It is a pattern emerging across the nation and was not limited to few universities," he told NDTV.
Rejecting the allegations, DUSU vice president Priyanka Chawri, an ABVP member, claimed that "anti-India" slogans were raised by students affiliated to AISA and that they provoked ABVP activists, not more than "10-20" of which were present.
"We have videos to prove that anti-national slogans were raised. ABVP was not in the picture at all," she said.
Debraj Mookerjee, associate professor of Ramjas College, said there was a need to make a distinction between critical thinking and anti-national ideas and wondered why the two were being conflated.
