Over one lakh devotees participated in the chariot procession of Lord Venkateswara at the famous hill shrine at nearby Tirumala Thursday, the penultimate day of nine-day "Adhika Masa Brahmotsavam".

As part of the car festival, the idols of Lord Venkateswara and his divine consorts Sri Lakshmi and Sri Padmavathi, adorned with ornaments, were mounted on the traditionally decorated 'maha chariot' and pulled around amid chanting of Vedic hymns.

Thousands of devotees pulled the chariot around the hill shrine, a temple official said.

The Adhika Masa festivities, held once in three years, had begun on September 13, the official said.

The regular annual 'Navaratri Brahmotsavam' of the hill temple would commence on October 10.
