Over 14,000 police vacancies in TN to be filled up soon: Jaya

More than 14,000 vacancies of various posts in the state police would be filled up soon and another 10,500 youths are to be recruited for a Special Police Youth Brigade, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said today.
A total of 13,924 constables (Grade II), 886 sub- inspectors, 234 technical assistants and 197 finger print experts' vacancies would be filled up soon, she said, presenting President's Police Medal and Chief Minister's Medal for meritorious service to personnel at a special function here.
Jayalalithaa also said that another 10,500 youths would be recruited this year for Special Police Youth Bridage, which she announced during the Assembly session.
She gave away medals to 61 recipients and another 489 winners were awarded medals by senior police officials at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium here.
Elaborating on the ongoing projects in the police force, she said modern gadgets and equipment were being procured under the modernising initiative of the government at a cost of Rs 200 crore.
Under the 'You Own House,' a housing scheme for the police personnel, as many as 2,673 houses were being constructed over 47.6 acre of land at Melakottaiyur in neighbouring Kancheepuram district.
This year, a total of 10,704 houses, 223 police stations and 63 other buildings were being constructed for the police force at a cost of Rs 1,695 crore, the Chief Minister added.
A total of 550 personnel from police, Vigilance and Anti- Corruption (373), Fire and Rescue Services (114), Prison (36) and Home Guards (27) received medals at the function.
