Over 18 lakh girls have benefitted from Ladli scheme in MP

More than Rs 4,500 crore has been deposited in bank accounts of over 18.62 lakh girls so far under the Ladli Laxmi Yojana aimed at protecting the future of the girls and enhancing their population in the state, Madhya Pradesh government said today.
Under LLY, the state government buys National Saving Certificate for girls from time to time and the deposit swells to more than Rs 1 lakh when she turns 21.
More than 1.36 lakh girls have been benefited under LLY in last 12 months, Madhya Pradesh Women and Child Development Minister Maya Singh told reporters here while giving information on her department's performance.
She said that more than 16 lakh families have adopted family planning measure after introduction of the scheme. Couples that go for fourth baby are denied the LLY benefit.
Singh said that to reap the benefit of the scheme, the girl child has to go to school and as a result of this more than 6.73 lakh girls were studying. At schools these girls are immunised against diseases.
