'Over 3,000 persons get commercial pilot licence in 5 years'

Commercial Pilot's Licences were granted to 3,016 persons in the last five years but data on currently unemployed trained aviation pilots is not maintained, the government said today.
"During the last five years between 2012 and 2016, CPL was granted to 3,016 persons and Airline Transport Pilot's Licence (ATPL) to 2,172 persons," Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
As many as 159 persons were granted Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) licences, while basic AME certificates were given to 3,644 persons during the five year period.
The figures are from the data maintained by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
"Data on currently unemployed trained aviation pilots and/ or AMEs in the country is not maintained," Sinha said.
The minister also said that a number of initiatives have been taken in order to bridge skill gaps in the aviation sector.
