Over 35,00 kgs of illicit liquor destroyed by JK's excise dept
Press Trust of India Jammu Jammu and Kashmir's excise department has destroyed 38,546 kgs of illicit liquor in 3,497 raids and imposed a penalty of Rs 11.84 lakh on the offenders in 2013-14, officials said today.
As many as 3,497 raids were conducted and 38,546 kgs of illicit liquor destroyed during 2013-14, Excise Commissioner, J&K, Vineeta Gupta said here.
Rs 11.84 lakh was recovered from penalty imposed on the offenders, he added.
Gupta, who was briefing J&K Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather at a review meeting of the department, said a fine of Rs 30.41 lakh was charged on tax evaders at toll post at Lakhanpur in Kathua district.
"19,560 kgs polythene bags, 660 bottles of corex and 4200 kgs of a herb nagshatri was seized at the check post," she said, adding, 'bhaang' cultivation over an area of 2,122 kanals was also destroyed.
