Over 35,000 families were displaced during Kargil war: JK Govt

Jammu and Kashmir Government today said that over 35,000 families were displaced along the border with Pakistan from different parts of the state during the Kargil War.
Replying to a question from Congress legislator Ravinder Kumar Sharma in the Legislative Council here today, state Home minister Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo said,"35,794 families were dislocated from Jammu, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch districts during Kargil conflict".
He said these families were provided with free ration, cash assistance of Rs 400 per head per month subject to maximum of Rs 16,00 per family per month and were also provided with a sum of Rs 300 per month for purchasing food.
All other civic amenities like drinking water, electricity and tented accommodation were also provided to these families.
