Punjab Chief Electoral Officer V K Singh today said even as there is no chance of any violence in next year's Punjab Assembly elections, more than 4,000 web cameras will be installed at "very sensitive" polling stations to ensure that the electoral process is peaceful.
There is no chance of any election related violence in the state. The Election Commission of India will install more than 4,000 web cameras in polling booths, he said.
Addressing mediapersons at a state level function organised here for voters with special needs, Singh said the State Election Commission is ready for the upcoming Assembly election.
The web cameras will have 3G and 4G Internet connectivity and will be connected directly with the District Election Office, Election Office Chandigarh and Election Commission of India in New Delhi, he said.
To a question about sensitive and very sensitive polling stations, Singh said it is yet to be decided and assured that all security related arrangements have been finalised.
There are 1.96 crore electorates this time in the state, of which around 7 lakh are new voters. There will be around 22,600 polling stations this time, he said.
To increase polling percentage, the Election Commission has given emphasis that voters with "special needs" are able to exercise their franchise without any problem and some NGOs are assisting them for this.
In case of any election related complaint, voters can dial toll free number 1950 or also submit their complaint online. The poll panel will make sure that every complaint is redressed within 24 hours, Singh said.
