: City Police today said it had cracked over 400 cases of property offences in the last four months, recovering stolen articles including gold worth Rs 9.50 crore.
"In the past four months, Chennai City Police have detected 405 property cases and arrested 504 property offdenders. In all, 2,800 sovereign of jewels were recovered. Beside gold jewellery, 294 diamond stones, 37 kg of silver and cash Rs 55 lakh were also recovered," an official release here said.
Special police teams also recovered electronic items like mobile phones and laptops besides two-wheelers and four-wheelers, it added.
The release said that with police intensifying crime prevention activities, instances of various incidents, including murder and property offences, had shown a decline.
"In 2013, 163 cases of murder were reported. There has been a reduction in reporting of murder cases in 2014. So far this year, 126 cases were reported, showing a decline of 23 per cent," it said.
Enquiries by jurisdiction officers helped resolve petty issues that had the "potential to develop into major law and order issues," it said while explaining the reason behind dip in murders.
