Pakistani police have arrested over 500 people including clerics for "misusing loudspeakers, holding provocative speeches and possessing hate material" in Punjab province.
According to a handout issued by Punjab police, "The police have registered over 700 cases against those involved in misusing loudspeakers, holding provocative speeches and possessing hate material throughout the province during the last two days".
It said the police have launched the crackdown as part of the implementation of the National Action Plan of the federal government which is aimed at eliminating terrorism in the country.
"Some 600 cases have been registered only for misusing loudspeakers and 300 arrests have been made, mostly clerics," it said.
During the crackdown, police also confiscated a large number of books, pamphlets, banners, newspapers, memory cards, DVDs, CDs, USBs, booklets and computers from various districts.
Punjab Inspector General of Police, Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera has ordered his force to show no leniency against elements involved in instigating the masses through printed hate material, provocative speeches and loudspeakers.
"The facilitators of terrorists will be dealt with full force," the IGP said.
