More than 700 Yemini war-injured citizens and military personnel have been provided medical assistance in India since June 2016, with the United Arab Emirates facilitating their treatment under its humanitarian assistance programme, the UAE envoy here said on Tuesday.
The UAE government has brought several batches of victims from war-torn Yemen to India for better treatment with the recent batch comprising 26 Yemen citizens who were victims of blasts, bullets, or having other injuries sustained as a result of the civil war in that country.
The patients have undergone treatment a hospital here with the injured being attended by an expert team of doctors and staff from various departments such as orthopedics, neurosurgery, general surgery, plastic surgery, and ophthalmic surgery.
UAE Ambassador to India Ahmed Al Banna said between June 2016 and December 2018, 729 Yemini patients and 325 accompanying people have travelled to India for medical treatment with the cost being borne by the UAE government.
"The UAE has strongest bilateral tie-ups for cooperation and collaborations. Healthcare is one of the most important areas of collaboration. The UAE government, as its international responsibility and humanitarian aid, chose VPS Healthcare-Medeor Hospital as its partner to provide healthcare facilities to war-injured Yemen people in India," Al Banna said.
The patients from Yemen were brought to New Delhi as part of the bilateral relationships between India and the UAE. The Indian government has issued a medical attendance visa for these patients.
