At a meeting attended by the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, DGP Punjab Sumedh Singh Saini and other senior officers, ADGP Dinkar Gupta informed that total 2.36 lakh calls were received through "181" helpline service since its launch last year.
"People registered 37,295 complaints, out of which 34,764 have been disposed of," he said.
"About 48 per cent calls were made by female complainants. The helpline has increased a sense of security among women," he said.
He said Amritsar and Ludhiana had been selected among 27 cities for the Safe City project and that all efforts should be made to make use of the modern technology systems for this project.
Under the safe city project, Amritsar and Ludhiana would be equipped with ultra-modern security devices to maintain safety and smooth flow of traffic.
The police officers during the meeting informed that under this project 1,200 CCTV cameras would be installed in Ludhiana whereas 1,000 cameras would be put up in Amritsar.
