The city's Tapovan Grounds today reverberated with the sound of flutes as over 5,000 artists played the instrument at a synchronised performance.
As many as 5,378 flautists played classical "yaman kalyan" raga at one go at a huge and colourful dais erected at the "Venuvaad" musical programme.
Thousands of people, including women and youngsters, had assembled to watch this spectacular show and they were left mesmerised by the ear-pleasing sound of the instrument.
The artists were guided by Pt Ronu Majumdar, a noted flautist in the Hindustani classical music tradition.
Well-known spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravishankar and flute maestro Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia were also present on the occasion.
The main objective of 'venunaad' was to promote Indian classical music and revive the legacy of playing flute, especially among youth, the organisers said.
