Over four kg gold seized

In a major haul, as many as four and half kilogram of gold jewellery and Rs four lakh were seized from a flat here and two persons hailing from Rajasthan were arrested for bringing it illegally to evade tax, police said.
Acting on a tip off, a special team comprising police and enforcement officials carried out a raid at the flat at Kacheripady in the city and seized the yellow metal, they said.
"As many as four and half kilogram of gold was seized from the flat. Besides this, four lakh rupees was also recovered from there," City Police Commissioner M P Dinesh said.

The arrested persons had planned to sell the gold to retail gold merchants in the city, he said, adding details including about the source of the seized gold cannot be revealed at the moment.
