Over-loading of school vans: Delhi govt sends notice to 12
Press Trust of India New Delhi The Delhi transport department today issued notices to 12 schools after finding that private van operators ferrying their students were carrying more than the permitted capacity for that particular category of service.
The government, in the notice, mentioned that it is alleged private school van operators engage in malpractices like carrying more children than permitted and making them sit on the CNG cylinder.
The move came after a media report exposed how 25 children were being ferried in an eight-seater van. As per the rules, a maximum of 12 children are allowed in these vans.
According to a senior officer, Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai has sought action against school-vans that are found violating the norms and called for an action taken report in this regard.
"We have sent notices to 12 schools. Action will be taken against those who are found flouting the rules. A joint meeting of transport department and traffic police officials will be held with school managements to sort the issue," a senior official said.
