Over Rs 200 cr for training of babus

The government today earmarked over Rs 200 crore to the Ministry of Personnel for 2013-14 to augment its training facilities for bureaucrats, a surge of 68 per cent as compared to budgetary provisions for current fiscal.
According to the budgetary proposals presented by Finance Minister P Chidambaram in Lok Sabha, a total of Rs 209.75 crore has been proposed for the Ministry to meet establishment- related expenditure of its two premier institutions--Institute of Secretariat Training and Management (ISTM), Delhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie--for training of bureaucrats.
The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension had got Rs 124.66 crore for 2012-13.
Both ISTM and LBSNAA arrange several training programmes to equip all levels or grades of secretarial functionaries with adequate exposure to the latest rules and regulations, among others.
The provisions for next fiscal include grants for training schemes including foreign training, upgradation of LBSNAA to a centre of excellence and setting up of National Centre for Good Governance, among others, as per the notes on Demand of Grants in the General Budget.
The government has also proposed to increase by about 78 per cent to Rs 29.02 crore the budgetary allocation for Central Information Commission (CIC) and Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) for 2013-14 as compared to the provision for the ongoing fiscal ending March 31.
