An overloaded passenger bus today veered off a road and plunged into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district, killing one woman and leaving 35 others injured, a police officer said.
The bus, en route to Doda from Halaran, fell into a 200- feet deep gorge near Kahara on Gandoh-Thathri road, he said.
Altogether 36 people were travelling on the 20-seater bus, said SDM Thathri, Mohd Anwar Banday.
"After getting information about the accident, police immediately rushed to the spot and rescued all 36 people from the ill-fated vehicle. They were taken to Trauma Hospital Thathri, where doctors declared one of them as brought dead," Banday said.
"Some critically injured people were later shifted to district hospital for further treatment," he said.
The deceased was identified as Kulsuma Begum, a resident of Gandoh, he added.
