"The audit team had on June 27 found some anomalies in the accounts of 25th battalion PAC after verification from the Rae Bareli treasury, following which a case was registered against head constable Jitendra Kumar Tripathi," home department sources said.
Tripathi was arrested on June 30.
He had accepted his crime and had helped in recovery of Rs 23 lakhs and later on July 11 another Rs 29 lakhs along with a car and motorcycle bought from the embezzled amount, sources said.
Tripathi had also told the police about the role of another person Anil Singh who is absconding alongwith his family members, sources said adding that a cash reward of Rs 5000 has been announced for him.
