PAC finds lapses in construction of cattle fair ground

The Punjab Assembly's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) today found serious lapses in the construction of a cattle fair ground here.
The PAC led by its chairman Kuljit Singh Nagra held a meeting to take stock of the alleged misappropriation of public funds in the construction of the ground at Nabipur village on the GT Road.
The ground was build at a cost of Rs 7.50 crore.
Legislators Harpartap Singh Ajnala, Nirmal Singh, Satkar Kaur, Sangat Singh Gilzian and Amarjit Singh Sandoya among others were present on the occasion.
The members of the committee also visited the Modern Cattle Fair Ground to review its construction after a meeting.
The PAC found serious lapses in the construction and it was also noticed that the ground had several potholes, a release issued by the Public Relations Department said, adding that Rs 19.88 lakh had been spent on raising the level of the ground in 2016.

The committee has asked the Director of Panchayati Raj to take stern action against officials concerned and the contractor, the release said.
Besides, the PAC also issued directions to ensure regular cattle fairs from October 2 to make it easy for livestock keepers in Fatehgarh Sahib and adjoining district to buy and sell the animals.
