Filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro is gearing up for another epic monsters versus robots battle with a "Pacific Rim" sequel.
The director's futuristic sci-fi movie was much-maligned in North America, where it has grossed just under USD 102 million to date since its July release, but it became a big hit across the rest of the world, taking its current global gross to USD 407.6 million, reported Metro online.
Now, Del Toro has revealed he has started work on a follow up with screenwriter Travis Beacham, although he has no idea if studio bosses at Warner Bros will approve the project.
"We are writing the sequel. Travis Beacham and I are writing, so that is active. The decision to green light or not, that's definitely above my pay rate," Del Toro said.
"Pacific Rim" starred Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba and Rinko Kikuchi as they tried to save mankind from an invasion of giant monsters by suiting up as oversized robots to do battle.
