The initiative, claimed to be first of its kind, was taken up with a twin purpose of creating awareness on nearly 100 social issues, including afforestation, conservation of water, need for rain water harvesting structure, blood, eye and organ donations, saving the girl child from sexual abuse.
The other purpose was to ensure that walls were not defaced with political graffiti or film posters, Latha Sundaram, Managing Trustee, Aram Foundation Charitable Trust, said in a release.
This was part of the Safety and Cleanliness drive initiated in the railway stations across Salem Division and members of My City Clean City initiative and Aram volunteers from different colleges in and around the city participated, she said.
"This initiative brought out the latent artistic talents in our Home Guards and we propose to do this in other areas of the Coimbatore District", B Balaji, Area Commander of Home Guards, said, adding that 80 home guards from the district took part in the venture.
Balaji said this was the second initiative taken up by the Home Guards in a week's time, the first being the Rice Bucket Challenge where about 500 kgs of rice have already been donated to the needy.
