Pakistan army chief General Raheel Sharif today approved an increase in the number of military courts in Karachi to handle pending terror cases.
General Sharif took the decision while chairing the security briefing at Corps V Headquarters. He was also briefed on the current security situation of the city.
"Chief of Army Staff approved increase in number of military courts at Karachi to handle outstanding terrorist cases," army spokesman Major General Asim Bajwa said on Twitter.
The Chief of Army Staff also directed all concerned authorities to continue the security operation across the board and break the nexus that exists between terrorism, criminal mafias and corruption to ensure peace and prosperity in the commercial hub of the country.
Paramilitary forces began a crackdown on militants in the city in 2013 that has led to a drop in the levels of violence.
The military courts were established as part of a crackdown on militancy following a massacre at an army-run school in Peshawar last year in which over 150 people, mostly school children were killed.
