A Pakistani today issued notices to Punjab caretaker chief minister Hasan Askari Rizvi and others on a petition seeking registration of a criminal case against him, home minister and police officials for attacking and stopping the PML-N workers from reaching the Lahore airport to receive former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on July 13.
PML-N leader Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan in his petition said police picked up several party workers and stopped others from reaching the airport to give a rousing welcome to Sharif and his daughter Maryam, who were returning to serve their terms at the Adiala Jail Rawalpindi. An accountability court Islamabad on July 6 had handed down 10 and 7 years imprisonment to Nawaz and Maryam in Evenfield properties corruption case.
The petitioner requested the court to order registration of a case against Rizvi, home minister Shaukat Javed and senior police officers of Punjab for their alleged involvement in attacking and stopping the party workers from reaching the airport.
The petitioner said Askari had become a party against the PML-N and tried his best to affect its election campaign. The caretaker chief minister also got registered false cases against PML-N workers in order to take them part in July 25 polls.
