Pak forces arrest over 10,500 people in anti-terror crackdown

Pakistani law enforcement agencies have so far arrested 10,616 people in 14,886 search operations after the government launched the National Action Plan (NAP) to eliminate terrorism following the Peshawar school attack.
The NAP was prepared after the Peshawar attack on December 16 that killed 150 people, in consultation with political parties and the military.
According to an official statement, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was briefed that as part of implementation of NAP since December 24, security agencies conducted 9,413 operations in Punjab, 1,577 in Sindh, 2,724 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 39 in Balochistan, 336 in Islamabad, 720 in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), 21 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 56 in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

Among those arrested included 1,934 from Punjab, 1,533 from Sindh, 6,038 from KP, 460 from Balochistan, 505 from Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), seven from PoK, 10 from GB and 129 from FATA.
For misuse of loudspeakers, security agencies arrested 2,035 people.
At least 540 cases have been registered for spreading hate speech and material. Law enforcement agencies also arrested 405 people and sealed 41 shops on same charges.
According to the data, around 3,416 Afghan refugees have been deported from the country.
Around 1250 intelligence-based operations were also conducted throughout the country. The government said that 25.5 million cellphone SIMs have been verified as part of decision to block all unverified SIM cards.
